[sthlm intermezzo]: Talk with Viveka Adelswärd
The organizing team invited communication researcher Viveka Adelswärd for a short talk and following discussion on Wednesday March 25, 18.00.
From an email correspondance with Viveka:
"When it comes to texts which could give inspiration, I am thinking of Erving Goffman, social psychologist, who uses theater as a metaphor for the meeting. It is not only the concepts "backstage" and "front stage" which are important. He also thinks that all the meetings always includes a aspect of "impression management" in which the participants, in more or less unconscious ways, try to present themselves as they wish the others to perceive them. And to succeed in providing a desired self-image we have to help the others to present their prefererade images. For to maintain your own face, you need to be helped by others and you must help them.
